The government said it has no plan to increase rail fares for now despite the recent fuel price hike that resulted in a significant increase in bus and launch fares.
Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan said prime minister Sheikh Hasina did not endorse the idea of train fare hike as she considers rail as a public transport sector, whose purpose is to serve people.
The minister confirmed this while replying to a question at a press briefing organised after the inauguration of rail track placement work on the deck of Padma Bridge on Saturday.
However, while replying to another question, Sujan said that no official proposal for train fare revision was sent to the premier.
