The government has formed a high-powered 'National Committee on Export' to oversee the export activities and take necessary measures taking existing and possible crises and post-graduation challenges into consideration.
The 44-member committee, headed by the Prime Minister, consists of 11 ministers, principal secretary at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the Bangladesh Bank governor, the chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and nine secretaries from relevant ministries.
The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) on Friday issued a gazette notification in this regard.
Executive chairmen of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority, Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority and Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority, and vice chairman of Export Promotion Bureau are also the members of the committee.
Chiefs of 16 trade bodies, including Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association, are also inducted in the committee.
The committee will scrutinise the export related issues to increase export earnings and recommend the required measures in this regard.
It will also discuss the current and possible crises and the post-graduation challenges, and recommend and decide the necessary steps accordingly.
