Govt committed to ensure occupational safety, rights: Mojibul

State Minister for Labour and Employment Mojibul Haque, MP, has said the present government is pledged bound to ensure occupational safety and legitimate rights.

To this end, the government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly so that no more Rana Plaza incident happens, he added.

The state minister was addressing the foundation laying ceremony of the “National Occupational Health and Safety related Research and Training Institute” at Terakhadia area in Rajshahi city on Thursday as chief guest, reports BSS.

Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments under the Ministry of Labour and Employment will implement the project on 3.05 hectares of land with an estimated cost of around Taka 1.65 billion within next 30 months.

Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzman Liton, Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, Secretary-in-Charge of the ministry Ashraf Shamim, Inspector General of the department Shamsuzzaman Bhuiyan and President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Md Muniruzzaman also spoke.

Mujibul Haque said the government has been observing the National Occupational Health and Safety Day on April 28 every year since 2016 taking the occupational health and safety as an important issue for all industries.

Upon its successful implementation, the institute will contribute a lot towards ensuring occupational health and safety of all factory and industry workers side by side with boosting industrial productivity, the state minister hoped.

He told the meeting the Bangladesh’s position in garments export is second in the world. Bangladesh has become role model in terms of ensuring safe atmosphere in readymade garments factories, he added.
