The government has set Tk 5,940 as minimum monthly wage for the entry level workers of bakery, bread and confectionery sector, officials said.
The present minimum monthly wage of the workers of this sector is Tk 2,120, set in 2012, they informed.
The ministry of labour and employment made the announcement through a gazette notification on July 14.
It also announced new wages for the workers of the automatic and semi-automatic factories.
The new wages structure for automatic factories' workers comprises five grades.
Sixth and seventh grades have been set for the workers of manual and semi-automatic factories respectively.
The ministry has fixed Tk 5,940 as wage for the sixth grade workers of bakery, bread and confectionery that operates manually, according to the notification.
The pays include a basic payment of Tk 3,600 for the establishments located at district towns.
The ministry has set 40 per cent of basic salary as house rent. Tk 700 has been fixed as medical allowance and Tk 200 as travel allowance.
The minimum wages for the grade-five and grade-seven workers of automatic and semi-automatic factories have been fixed at Tk 6,550.
The payments include a basic pay of Tk 3,700 for district town while other allowances will be the same as that of the workers of manual factories.
About 50 per cent of the basic pay has been fixed as house rent and Tk 300 as travel allowance for workers working in the city corporations and divisional cities.
As per the notification, the minimum wages for the workers of grade five and grade seven of automatic and semi-automatic factories have been finalised at Tk 6,080.
Their basic monthly pay is Tk 3,700.
The government has announced a total of four grades for the employees of bakery, bread and confectionery sector.
Tk 6,500 has been set as minimum monthly wage for them.
Tk 2,432 was set as minimum monthly wage for this sector's employees in 2012.
The monthly wage structure for them includes Tk 4,000 as basic salary for district town.
They will get forty per cent of their basic as house rents, Tk 700 as medical allowance and Tk 200 as travel allowance.
Employees of the city corporations and divisional towns in the sector will get 50 per cent of the basic wage as house rent and Tk 300 as travel allowance.
The government has set Tk 5,000 as monthly pay for the apprentice workers and the maximum length of their apprenticeship tenure will be six months, the notification added.
The ministry took the move to review the minimum wages for the workers and employees of this sector in November last year.
It announced that the representatives of the owners and the workers of this sector had been included in the wage board.
