The government will buy 1.8 million tonnes of rice and paddy in the upcoming Boro harvesting season starting from April 28.
A total of 1.1 million tonnes of parboiled rice will be bought at Tk 40 a kg, 0.05 million tonnes of white rice (Aatap) at Tk 39 a kg, and 0.65 million tonnes of paddy at Tk 27 a kg, the same rates compared to that of last year.
The purchase target and price were declared by the food minister Shadhan Chandra Majumder at the virtual meeting of the Food Planning and Monitoring Unit (FPMU) held on Thursday.
