The government is considering setting up a dedicated agriculture entrepreneurship cell for the betterment of the country's agriculture sector, said Agriculture Minister Dr Mohammad Abdur Razzaque on Saturday.
This cell will help create new agriculture entrepreneurs, the minister observed.
"It's now very important to create new agriculture entrepreneurs and also to encourage the persons involved with the sector for the development of the country's agriculture sector. We are seriously thinking to create a cell that will help a lot for agriculture entrepreneurship development," Mr Razzaque said while launching the agriculture entrepreneurs' conference at the auditorium of Bangladesh Agriculture Research Council (BARC) at Farmgate in the capital.
He said the cell will provide information to the farmers about what crops they should cultivate considering places and seasons, the process of agriculture crops and give them other necessary supports.
United Commercial Bank Ltd and Bikashito Bangladesh Foundation jointly organised the event which was attended by agriculture entrepreneurs from 33 districts of the country.
The minister said the officials at the grassroots level have been asked to monitor strictly whether the deserving farmers were getting agriculture loans properly or facing any problem in getting the same.
Earlier the government disbursed Tk280 billion agriculture loans among the farmers.
About recent attacks on Hindus during the just ended Durga Puja in different places of the country, Mr Razzaque said the whole nation was ashamed by the heinous incidents.
He added Bangladesh is a country where Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians and other tribes have been living for ages side by side very peacefully maintaining communal harmony.
Managing Director of United Commercial Bank and former agriculture secretary and also coordinator of the conference Anwar Faruk presided over the conference.
Managing Director (Agriculture Loan Section) of Bangladesh Bank Md Abdul Hakim also spoke on the occasion.
