Global Money Week 2022 kicks off in Dhaka

The 10th anniversary of Global Money Week campaign kicked off on Monday aiming to create awareness on financial issues among youths.

The campaign, titled ‘Build your future, be smart about money’, was organised by Daffodil International University and Bangladesh Skill Development Institute in association with Watermark, Inspiring Bangladesh and FSIBL Bank. 

A total of 176 countries are taking part in the campaign this year, according to a press release received here on Tuesday.

The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is hosting the global campaign.

Following the OECD guidelines, the organisers have chalked up week-long programmes, namely holding special sessions in academic institutions, creating awareness campaigns in social and electronic media, and organising ‘Money Talks’ in different divisions and online sessions.

Inaugurating the event through a video message, Md Sabur Khan, chairman of the Daffodil Family, invited young people to take part in the campaign for developing knowledge and skills to face future challenges.

“We, along with our partners and sponsors, are committed to enhancing the financial literacy of young people to achieve financial well-being and resilience. I believe, this year Bangladesh will create another example and make this campaign a great success. We invite you to join the countrywide celebration event this year online and physically following health safety guidelines.”

Bangladesh has been recognised twice for outstanding contribution in Financial Literacy Generation among the young generation during the years 2015 and 2017 out of 160 countries.

Professor Dr Md Masum Iqbal, dean, Faculty of Business and Entrepreneurship of the university was present as the chief guest in the inauguration session.

The function was also addressed by Mr K M Hasan Ripon, executive director, BSDI, Zakaria Polash, managing director, Watermark, Md Kamruzzaman Didar, head, Department of Entrepreneurship and Amena Hassan Ena, deputy director of Daffodil International University, among others.
