State Minister for the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid on Saturday said the petroleum prices in

the domestic market would see a reflection after the prices fall on the international market.

The petroleum price in the domestic market was lowered in 2016 when its price on the international market was reduced, he said.

Mr Hamid's remark came while talking to journalists on Saturday against the backdrop of widespread criticism over the recent price hike of Diesel and Kerosene and subsequent enforcement of a countrywide transport strike protesting the hike and demanding raise of transport fares.

The petroleum prices were raised considering different aspects and to ensure national interest, he said.

Diesel price in the domestic market, which was raised to Tk 80 per litre from previous Tk 65 per litre on Wednesday last, is still below the price in neighbouring countries including India, said Mr Hamid.

In India, diesel price on November 6 was Rs 89.19 per litre (Tk 104 per litre).

The issue of entering a number of trucks carrying goods through 26 land ports from India was also under consideration.
