French company Total plans wider business in Bangladesh

French oil company Total has planned to come up with a big investment, particularly in LPG and LNG sectors, in Bangladesh.

Philipe Sauquet, the executive vice president (EVP)of the world's second largest oil exploration and marketing company, said this to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a meeting in Paris on Wednesday.

The meeting follows another with the leaders of Movement of the Enterprises of France (MEDEF), the largest employer federation of France.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Huq said Total has business both in LNG and LPG sectors in 130 countries, including Bangladesh.

Total has been doing business in Bangladesh since 2002 and they have a bottling plant of 2,500 mt carbon storage.

Sauquet told the Prime Minister that now they want to double the capacity of the plant and the company has already started consultation with Bangladeshi officials in this regard

The Total executive vice president also sought her support for further expanding their business in Bangladesh.

As he informed the Prime Minister of various challenges in doing business in Bangladesh, she assured them of looking into the matters, the foreign secretary said.

Later, Martin Van Schaik, senior executive vice president of Thales, a French aerospace company, called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Bilateral Meeting Room of the Intercontinental Paris Le Grand Hotel.

Martin said they have already completed their venture of building Bangabandhu Satellite and are now waiting to launch it from Cape Canaveral in Florida in March 2018.

He invited Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to join the launching ceremony of the country’s first ever satellite in Florida, USA.

After settling down on the orbit, Martin said, Bangladesh would receive various information related to different sectors through the satellite from the space.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also gave an interview with France 24, a 24-hour international news and current affairs television network.
