Forty companies listed with Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchange have received the eighth ICSB National Award for excellence in corporate governance.
Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) honoured the companies under 13 categories on Sunday night through a ceremony held at a city hotel.
The companies were selected taking into account their corporate fairness, transparency and accountability in the overall management of their team during the year 2020.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, MP attended the programme as Chief Guest while Chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Prof. Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam and Secretary of the ministry of commerce Tapan Kanti Ghosh, were the special guests.
Tipu Munshi said the importance of corporate governance is being increased across the world.
“The government is committed to ensuring the culture of corporate governance in the operations of listed companies,” the minister said, while appreciating the role of the ICSB in creating awareness regarding corporate governance among the listed companies.
Prof. Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam said corporate governance plays a vital role in sustainable development of the stock market.
“The ICSB’s award has earned a unique identity in the corporate sector of the country. This award has been playing an important role in creating awareness among the listed companies to enhance their corporate governance,” Prof. Islam said.
Among the awardees in the General Banking category, BRAC Bank achieved Gold while Eastern Bank and Dutch-Bangla Bank obtained Silver and Bronze respectively.
In the Islami Banking category, Shahjalal Islami Bank bagged Gold while Islami Bank Bangladesh and Social Islami Bank received Silver and Bronze medals respectively.
In the Non-Banking Financial Institutions category, Delta Brac Housing Finance Corporation achieved gold award while IDLC Finance and Bangladesh Finance & Investment Company obtained Silver and Bronze awards respectively.
In General Insurance Companies category, Green Delta Insurance Company won gold award while Reliance Insurance and Prime Insurance Company bagged Silver and Bronze respectively.
In life insurance category, Pragati Life Insurance received gold award while National Life Insurance and Sonali Life Insurance won silver and bronze awards respectively.
Square Pharmaceuticals bagged gold whereas Beximco Pharmaceutical and IBN SINA got the silver and bronze respectively under the pharmaceuticals and chemical category.
In the textile and RMG category, Matin Spinning Mills achieved gold award while Paramount Textile and Envoy Textiles won silver and bronze respectively.
In the food and allied category, Golden Harvest Agro Industries won the gold award while Unilever Consumer Care and Olympic Industries received silver and bronze respectively.
Grameenphone bagged the gold whereas Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company and Aamra Networks received silver and bronze respectively under IT and telecom category.
Singer Bangladesh got the gold while BBS Cables and Walton Hi-Tech Industries received silver and bronze respectively under the engineering category.
In the manufacturing category, British American Tobacco Bangladesh Company got the gold while Marico Bangladesh won the silver. In the same category, LafargeHolcim Bangladesh and RAK Ceramics (Bangladesh) won the bronze jointly.
In the fuel & power category, Summit Power won the gold while MJL Bangladesh and United Power Generation and Distribution Company received silver and bronze respectively.
In the service-providing category, Unique Hotel & Resorts received gold award while Eastern Housing and Summit Alliance Port won the silver and bronze respectively.
