The government is going to bring all kinds of food and drink supplied from the outside to the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) under its close quality check, officials say.
To this effect, it is considering setting up offices of the Department of Narcotics, and the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution at the RNPP project.
The state offices will examine the standard of all food and beverage supplies to the RNPP.
The prime minister's office has suggested the ministry concerned to work on the issue so that no adulterated food and drinks enter the project area without checks.
Commerce and industries ministries, and public security division are working closely to execute the order, says a high official with good knowledge of the issue.
Industries ministry has recently asked commerce ministry to take steps as per suggestions, he adds.
The instruction from the top management of the government comes following the death of foreign officials of the RNPP this year, according to a source.
The 24,000-megawatt facility is being built in accordance with the Russia-Bangladesh intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in nuclear plant construction.
The deal for constructing two units of the RNPP was signed on 02 November 2011.
The first concrete was poured for Rooppur-01 on 30 November 2017 while that for Rooppur-02 on 14 July 2018.
The first unit of the power nuclear plant was scheduled to start operation in 2022 and the second one in 2024 by its implementing agency Rosatom.
But recently the first unit's operation has been rescheduled to 2024 and the second unit to 2025.
