Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder on Saturday emphasised showing selling prices of rice on the website and at every mill gate, saying that it will help to prevent price hikes of rice at the retail market in the name of the increasing price at the mill level.
"If the rice prices, in which rice is sold at the mill level, are shown on the website and at every mill gate, retailers cannot charge extra money showing the false reason of price hike at the mill level," he said.
The minister came up with the statement while addressing the annual general meeting of the Bangladesh Auto Major and Husking Mill Owners' Association (BAMHMOA) as the chief guest at a hotel in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon, reports BSS.
He simultaneously strongly criticised the recent increase in the rice price by Taka 5 to 6 per kg on the pretext of an increase in fuel prices.
Noting that the government and mill owners are not counterparties rather both are complementary of each other, the food minister said those who could not supply rice to government warehouses despite the agreement will be considered if they can explain the rational reason.
"But mill owners, who help the government and who don't help, in rice procurement will not be measured equally," he added.
State Minister for Social Welfare valiant freedom fighter Md Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru, Food Secretary Md Ismiel Hossain and Director General of Directorate General of Food Md Shakhawat Hossain spoke at the function, among others, with BAMHMOA President Md Abdur Rashid in the chair.
