The country has clocked 51.33 per cent of rice import target so far in fiscal year 2017-18.
Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam said this on Monday while responding to a query in parliament by lawmaker Nurul Islam Milon of Comilla-8.
According to him, “Already 770,000 tonnes out of targeted 1.5 million tonnes of rice have reached the port which is 51.33 per cent of the total targeted import.”
Besides, he said, 316,000 tonnes of wheat out of 500,000 tonnes have already reached the port which is 63.2 per cent of the total wheat target.
The minister also said the country has imported a total of around 1.09 million tonnes of food-grains in current fiscal year.
“The government so far has imported around 1.086 million tonnes rice and paddy from Vietnam, Myanmar, India, Thailand, Cambodia and Russia through G2G and international bidding process in 2017-18 fiscal year,” said the minister.
Of thee imported food grains, a total of 818,000 tonnes rice and wheat have already been unloaded at the port and the rest 268,000 tonnes is in way of unloading process, he added.
