Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) on Sunday filed cases against five shops in the city on charge of manipulating weight and measurement.
The cases were lodged under ‘Standards of Weights and Measures Bill 2018’during the drive conducted by the BSTI’s surveillance team in the capital’s Dhanmondi and Mohammadpur areas.
BSTI Assistant Director Md Rezaul Karim led the drive with the presence of Assistant Director Md Monnaf Hossain and Inspector Md Liaquat Hossain and Md Billal Hossain.
Among the five shops, Saiham Sweets at Dhanmondi faced charges for not keeping verification certificates of weight measurement instruments and not having production and expiry date on goods.
The surveillance team also formally accused New Singapore Jewellers, The Suveccha Jewellers, Maa Jewellers and Priyanka Cloth Store in Mohammadpur area for manipulating weight measurement.
