Members of the Foreign Investors' Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) have sought government's intervention in resolving some problems they are facing.
A delegation of the FICCI met with Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun at his ministry on Wednesday and apprised him of some issues related to fake and adulterated products.
They also requested the minister to direct the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) to take measures so that the actual weights of the products are mentioned on the pack (of the products).
They also recommended that the government simplify the taxes and fiscal policies to help boost foreign direct investment in the country.
They said that they wanted to work with the government jointly for branding Bangladesh abroad.
The minister assured the FICCI of addressing their problems.
He also sought their (FICCI) cooperation in attracting more foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country.
"We have built special economic zones and industrial parks. The government has been working to ensure an ideal environment for the local and foreign investors," he said.
Vice-President of FICCI and Managing Director of United Dhaka Tobacco Company Limited Neil Kaplan led the delegation. Joint secretary of the ministry Md Abdul Wahed was present at the meeting.
