The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) urged the government to withdraw value added tax (VAT) from the IT-based service sector.
The call came at a meeting of the FBCCI standing committee relating to the ministry of posts, telecommunications and information technology (IT) at its board room on Thursday.
The meeting discussed different aspects of the IT and telecommunication sector.
It welcomed the decision of the government to impose duty on the import of foreign software to protect local mobile phone manufacturing industry.
The meeting also emphasised the need for development of IOT (Internet of Things) in the country.
It stressed the need for improving the service of mobile operators.
Director In-Charge of the committee Mohammad Anwar Sadat Sarker presented the detailed future plan of the committee at the meeting.
Chairman of the standing committee Mohammed Nizam Uddin Zitu presided over the meeting.
