The East West Special Economic Zone Limited (EWSEZL), an enterprise of the Bashundhara Group, has obtained a functional licence from Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), according to a press release.
Executive Chairman of BEZA Paban Chowdhury handed over the licence to Vice-Chairman of the Bashundhara Group and Managing Director of EWSEZL Shafiat Sobhan at a function at the BEZA conference room in the city on Monday.
Senior officials of the BEZA and the EWSEZL attended the licence giving ceremony.
The EWSEZL has won the BEZA licence for full-fledged operation after a long process of meticulous compliance.
In the first phase, the EWSEZL is being built on an area of 105 acres of land at south Keraniganj near Dhaka at a cost of Tk 9,000 million. However, the entire economic zone project would be as big as 218 acres.
Implementation process of the second phase of the project is on and is expected to be completed within a couple of years.
Initial phase of this economic zone is set for accommodating nearly 20 industries of food processing, liquid petroleum gas cylinder manufacturing from hot-roll steel coil, powder coted paint manufacturing, concrete block and batching, bitumen manufacturing, edible oil refinery and poly propylene bag manufacturing.
The business giant - Bashundara Group - is set to sponsor five more private economic zone projects at Keraniganj, Bashbaria and Cox's Bazar.
An allocation of as big as 500 acres at the Mirsarai Economic Zone has also been awarded in favour of the Bashundhara Industrial Economic Zone Limited.
