Evaly seeks govt's help to resolve problems

The crisis-ridden e-commerce platform Evaly.com has sought government cooperation to resolve all its previous problems.

The trouble-torn online shopping company also wants to present its new business plan as it has resumed its operation.

To this effect, it has sought a meeting with the senior officials concerned of the commerce ministry to take advice about Evaly's different unresolved issues.

"We have just received a letter from online shopping firm Evaly," an official of the commerce ministry said.

On November 01, the government asked the Evaly authorities to stop discount offers through different digital items, including gift card, voucher, wallet, cash voucher, etc.

The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) issued an order to the company to follow the existing policy properly.

The e-commerce platform has offered 59 per cent discount on clothe purchase from a fashion house named OCODE.

The discount offer can be availed by purchasing Evaly's different digital cards, according to its verified Facebook page.

Issuance, use, sale and purchase of such things without prior approval of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) are prohibited as per its existing policy, said the ministry official.

The MoC also asked the firm to follow the Digital Commerce Operation Guidelines 2021 and other relevant laws to continue operation without facing any legal actions from the government.

The e-commerce site resumed its operation on October 28 following an order of the High Court.

A new five-member board of directors was also formed to run the company.

The new board included former chairman of Evaly Shamima Nasrin, Shamima's mother Farida Talukder Lily, and her sister's husband Md Mamunur Rashid.
