Eid shopping has picked up as different city markets are witnessing a growing number of buyers.
The New Market and Bashundhara City have been seeing a big rush for last few day.
The number of shoppers also increased significantly at other shopping malls on Friday.
Most of the traders have expressed their satisfaction with sales in recent days.
Salespeople at different shopping outlets were found very busy dealing with an increased number of customers on the day.
Customers from all walks of life crowded city shopping malls like Gawsia, Chadni Chawk, Aziz Supermarket and Mouchak to buy new dresses as per their choice.
Considering the demand ahead of Eid, different fashion houses, boutique outlets, brand and non-brand showrooms have already stockpiled dresses in their stores.
Among all items, sales of punjabi, saree, three-pieces, kid dresses, and footwear increased manifold ahead of Eid.
"We brought 12 types of new shoes and sandals targeting Eid-ul-Fitr this year," said Maruf Hossain, footwear brand Bay's outlet in-charge at Bashundhara City.
The prices of sandals range between Tk 600 and Tk 3,000 depending on the quality and design, he said.
American footwear brand Hush Puppies Bashundhara City outlet salesperson Faruk Hossain said their items are popular for better quality and comfortable design.
"We brought new five pairs of loafers and four pairs of formal shoes recently," he said.
Prices of the brand's formal shoes range from Tk 6,000 to Tk 14,000 while prices of loafers from Tk 5,000 to Tk 13,000, he said.
A non-brand shoestore Khan Enterprise's proprietor at the same shopping mall Swapon Mia said they are selling mostly imported shoes.
Bangladeshi traders import shoes from China, Thailand, Vietnam and India, he said.
"For women and children's shoes, many buyers prefer imported items for their colourful and attractive design," he said.
Kid shoes and sandals are sold between Tk 350 and Tk 1800, he said, adding that women's footwear prices start from Tk 500.
A good number of customers were seen buying shoes from various non-brand shops and footpaths at Elephant Road and New Market area.
A hawker in front of Dhaka College said they can sell their items at very reasonable prices as they don't need to pay rent.
"We mostly sell locally-manufactured low-cost items along with some items imported from China and Myanmar," he said.
He said he sells sandals priced between Tk 100 and Tk 550.
A shopper named Akhi Rahman said she was waiting for Friday to do Eid shopping.
"As a service-holder, I cannot come to markets on weekdays," she said, adding that many people are bound to do shopping amid intense crowd on Friday.
She also said she bought dresses for her family members and relatives preferring cotton fabrics for the attires considering the Eid during the summer season.
She praised the collection of dresses and accessories by local fashion houses for their true representation of local culture.
Local fashion house Biborton's Manager Khondoker Afzal Hossain said sales this year are picking up gradually.
"We are satisfied with the sales so far we have made," he said.
The buyers prefer colourful light designed attires this year, he added.
