The government launched 'e-port management system' at Burimari land port (BLP) in Lalmonirhat district on Sunday aiming to gear up its activities.
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury inaugurated the system through the installation of the software at a virtual programme from his secretariat office.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the newly introduced 'e-port management system' will help reduce hassles and improve the quality of services at Burimari land port.
So far the system has been installed at 12 land ports out of 24 in the country which are under the supervision of Bangladesh Land Port Authority (BLPA).
Now all services of Burimari land port will be rendered online. The BLP authority, clearing and forwarding agents, importers and exporters will greatly benefit from the system.
Besides, it will help boost imports and exports significantly at BLP.
The 'e-port management system' will maintain cent per cent secrecy of information as it has the hosting system of the national data centre and testing system of Bangladesh Computer Council.
The system will also ensure automation of billing, posting of goods, issuance of gate pass of BLP, online delivery, online monitoring and report, online payment system and others' information about Indian truck drivers and clearing and forwarding agents.
The importers will get short message service or SMS or email about information on imported goods automatically once goods-laden trucks enter Bangladesh from India.
The system will provide 16 services at BLP where 65,000-70,000 people will get benefits annually.
Out of 24 land ports, BLP is the second largest source of government's revenue earnings.
Chairman of BLPA K M Tariqul Islam, state minister for information and communication technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Md Motahar Hossain MP, general secretary of Bangladesh Importers and Exporters Association Humayun Kabir Sawdagar and it's Vice-President Iqbal Ahmed Fakrul Hassan (Russel) also took part in the programme.
