The government is expected to introduce unique business identification numbers (UBINs) in favour of e-commerce platforms from this November, a senior government official said.
In this regard, the a2i Programme under the government's ICT Division is developing necessary software.
The decision came at the first meeting of the committee on implementation of UBIN on Monday, with Additional Secretary of the commerce ministry Md Hafizur Rahman in the chair.
"We are expecting to introduce a primary version of software this November that is currently being developed under the a2i Programme," said Mr Rahman, also director general (DG) of WTO cell of the ministry.
The UBINs will be issued in favour of e-commerce firms through the software, he further said.
He, however, said apart from the e-commerce platforms, all other related business entities would also be brought under the process.
The move has been taken in the wake of various scandals by dubious e-commerce platforms such as Evaly, Eorange, Dhamaka Shopp-ing, Sirajganj Shop, etc.
