The E-commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) has declared to suspend memberships of four e-commerce companies including Evaly on multiple allegations of fraud and irregularities.
The other three companies suspended are Dhamaka Shopping, Sirajganj Shop, and Glitters RST World.
The apex trade body of the e-commerce operators declared this through a statement signed by its General Manager Jahangir Alam Shovon.
It said on Wednesday that the executive member council of the e-CAB made the decision at its meeting held on Tuesday.
It also said the allegations against Evaly included not addressing the customers’ grievances even taking a long period, not providing the e-CAB with the information requested by it, and non-compliance with the Digital Commerce Guideline-2021.
Likewise, Dhamaka Shopping violated consumers’ rights as they didn’t deliver the products nor refund after several months since customers’ made the orders, not addressing the consumers and merchants’ complaints and suspending business operations for an indefinite period without prior notice.
Among the remaining two companies, Sirajganj Shop also violated consumers’ rights by various means and defied Digital Commerce Guidelines 2021, while Glitters RST world ran illegal multilevel marketing (MLM) businesses in the disguise of e-commerce.
The e-CAB also said the four companies have been asked to submit a report to the trade body after settling all the complaints and repay the payables to the merchants and clients.
Otherwise, their membership might be scrapped after further review, the trade body hinted.
Reiterating its commitment to develop the country's digital commerce sector, the e-CAB also requested the consumers to be cautious while purchasing online and not to be allured by unusually high discounts.
Earlier, the e-cab scrapped memberships of four other companies including E-orange, 24TKT, Green Bangla E-commerce Ltd, and Excellent World Agro-Food and Consumer.
