e-CAB embarks on mission to repair image

Amid widespread scams and criticisms, the e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) and some other companies on Tuesday launched an awareness campaign, urging people to remain watchful about making any deal.

All the operators should not be blamed for the wrong-doings by a handful of entrepreneurs, Fahim Mashroor, CEO of Ajkerdeal, told the event held at a city hotel.

"The e-commerce entrepreneurs are contributing to the economy as well as generating employment, which should not be defamed for some unscrupulous businesses," he said.

The programme was told that the recent exposure of fraud practices by some e-commerce platforms has created serious image crisis for the honest and budding companies.

The association has requested both consumers and operators to remain watchful when they buy or sell anything using the digital platforms.

President of e-CAB Shomi Kaiser and General Secretary Abdul Wahed Tomal addressed the programme among others.

Shomi Kaiser said the trade body was working on promoting the bonafide platforms as well as sealing off every scope to deceive the customers in disguise of e-commerce.

She also said the e-CAB has been working with the government agencies concerned to strengthen the digital commerce ecosystem.

Highlighting the need for proper implementation of existing laws, she said: "There are already a number of legislation."

Zia Ashraf, a director of the association, said the consumers should be aware about the platforms they are dealing with.

The buyers should keep in mind that the e-commerce platforms are not investment platforms and they are online marketplace to facilitate people's lives, he added.

According to the organisers, the awareness campaign is a part of e-commerce festival styled "10-10 Online Shopping Festival" that began on October 10 and will continue until October 30.

Twenty e-commerce and logistic companies are taking part in the festival hosted at www.TenTen.com.bd.
