The government introduces a drive today (Sunday) to sell some key essential items at subsidized prices among 10 million low-income families across the country.
The programme will be run by the state-owned Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).
Only cardholders will be able to buy the items from the TCB-designated dealers and other permanent sales points concerned, says a press release issued by the TCB.
Under the drive, soybean oil, sugar, onion and lentils will be sold, according to the TCB.
The city corporations and district and upazila administration would be
involved with the drive, the press statement mentioned.
During the drive, a consumer would be able to buy a maximum of 1kg sugar at Tk 55, 2 litres of soybean oil at Tk 110 per litre, 2kg of lentils at Tk 65 per kg and 2 kg of onion at Tk 20.
Senior Secretary of the commerce ministry Tapan Kanti Ghosh will inaugurate the drive at a dealer point in the Tejgaon Industrial Area of the city at 10:00 am.
