Dhaka chamber holds conclave connecting 10 countries on Jan 5-7 to attract FDI

Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry is going to organise a virtual business-to-business (B2B) meet styled “DCCI Business Conclave-2020” on January 5-7.

The three-day conclave, the first of such gathering, is aimed at attracting foreign direct investment, joint ventures, sourcing cost-efficient destinations for import and exploring potential export destinations and increasing B2B interactions globally.

This conference, the organiser says, bears special importance especially in the wake of new normal, when “we see lack of physical interactions and business meetings”.

Representatives of 227 companies from 10 countries including 90 from Bangladesh are expected to join the conference.

The companies, which have shown interest in the conference, are mainly from apparel and textiles, light engineering, medicine, leather goods, plastic products, agro and food processing, IT and ITES sectors.

Other participating countries are: Algeria, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Poland, Turkey, and Vietnam.

A total of 176 B2B match-making are scheduled to take place in three-day meet.

Minister for Foreign Affairs AK Abdul Momen is expected to join the virtual inaugural ceremony as chief guest and Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Md. Sirazul Islam as special guest at 11:00am on January 5 (Tuesday).

The Dhaka Chamber believes that through direct consultation with their counterparts during the virtual conclave, foreign investors will be able to find potential sectors to invest in Bangladesh.

“They will also be able to know about the fiscal and non-fiscal incentives provided by the government of Bangladesh. The conclave will also help the local entrepreneurs to explore cost effective sources for import and find out potential market for export,” the chamber said in a pre-conference statement.
