Deal signed to reduce fire accident risk in EZs

Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence (BFSCD) to reduce the risk of fire accidents in the economic zones.

The agreement also aims to deal with any type of fire accident, to ensure a safe working environment and to conduct rescue operations in the event of fire or any other accidents through skilled and trained manpower in the different economic zones.

The agreement was signed at the fire department headquarters on Thursday.

Dr Sheikh Mohammad Zobayed Hossain , manager (MIS and Research) at BEZA and Lt Col Md Rezaul Karim, Director (Planning, Develop-ment and Training) at BFSCD, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.

The MoU ceremony was also attended by high-ranking officials of both organations and representatives of various government institutions.

Development Project Proposal (DPP) for setting up two modern fire stations inside the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar has already been approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec).

The project cost of is estimated to be around Tk 1.22 billion.

After implementation of the project, the fire stations and all the equipments will be handed over to the BFSCD to be operated by its trained personnel.
