For the development of the agriculture sector and to assist the stakeholders and entrepreneurs associated with this, "DCCI Agro Service Desk" has been established at the premises of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI).
DCCI Senior Vice-President Kamrul Islam on Sunday inaugurated the desk as the chief guest at a function at DCCI in Dhaka, said a press release.
USAID's Agriculture Value Chain (AVC) Project has supported to DCCI for initiating the desk.
During the programme, Kamrul Islam said in Bangladesh, the contribution of agriculture in GDP is 14.75 per cent and it employs 40.6 per cent (around 24.5 million people) of the total employment.
"Our export earnings from agro-food reached to US $553 million in 2016-2017 which is only 1.59 per cent of total export basket," he added.
To enter into the world market especially the European and US market, Kamrul Islam mentioned, good Agriculture Practice (GAP) and other standards need to be strictly maintained.
Vice-President of DCCI Riyadh Hossain, Directors of the DCCI Imran Ahmed, KMN Manjurul Hoque, representative of Global GAP Lisa Heinemann and DCCI Secretary General AHM Rezaul Kabir were present at that time, reports BSS.
