The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has urged the government to declare the period from 2019 to 2021 as 'the infrastructure years'.
The DCCI made the call when its board of directors led by President Abul Kasem Khan met Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) chairman Kazi M. Aminul Islam on Wednesday at BIDA headquarter in Agargaon.
DCCI also proposed to form a high powered and patent registered platform named Research and Innovation (RNI) Bangladesh Forum.
The RNI would include leading economists, experts of Bangladesh for providing thought-provoking futuristic economic insights, guidance.
DCCI President Abul Kasem Khan urged the government to come out from the stagnant situation in investment both local and foreign.
"The private investment needs to be scaled-up to 29 per cent from current level of 22.5 per cent to improve the ranking of Bangladesh," he said.
He also stressed on improving infrastructure, industrial energy situation, efficiency to attract private investment and facilitate industrialisation.
Abul Kasem suggested that BIDA needs to effectively introduce integrated one stop service, equipped with skilled and expert human resources.
BIDA Executive Chairman Kazi M. Aminul Islam said that the financial sector of Bangladesh needs more innovation and reforms.
According to UNB, he also stressed on skill development of our local human resources as Bangladesh has to spend about 5 billion USD as salary as outward remittance.
Senior Vice President of DCCI Kamrul Islam, Vice President Riyadh Hossain, Directors Engr. Akber Hakim, Andaleeb Hasan, Engr. Md. Al Amin, SM Zillur Rahman and Waqar Ahmad Choudhury were also present during the meeting.
