Customs Valuation and Internal Audit Commissionerate (CVIAC) has detected duty evasion on import of green tea through Chattogram and Benapole ports, said a statement issued by CVIAC.
After assessing the bill of entries of the two customs houses, a CVIAC team found that two importers declared lower value of green tea than that of the value fixed by the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
The team found that two companies evaded duty of Tk 1.65 million through import of green tea.
Importer TJ traders released 2,820 kilograms of flavored green tea from Chattogram port on January 28, 2018, showing its value at US$ 1.05 per kilogram through bill of entry C154612.
In an audit, the CVIAC found that the importer evaded Tk 980,000 in duty-taxes.
As per a Statutory Regulatory Order (SRO), the minimum value of the flavored green tea has been set at $ 7.0 per kg.
Another importer Roy Traders imported 1,624kg green tea through Benapole port on January 30, 2018 at $ 3.0 per kg through bill of entry No 6805.
The importer evaded Tk 232,000 in duty taxes through misdeclaration.
As per SRO, the value of green tea should be minimum $ 6 per kg. The team found that both the importers used wrong HS code. Total tax incidence of green tea is 58.69 per cent.
The CVIAC requested the customs houses concerned to realize the duty evaded by importers.
