Country’s apex trade body has urged the government to cut the corporate tax rates by 2.50 percentage points in the upcoming national budget for the fiscal year 2018-19.
The apex trade body also requested the government to enhance the tax-free ceiling of the individual income tax payers from Tk 250,000 to Tk 300,000 in the next fiscal year.
The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) made the requests in the 39th consultative committee meeting of National Board of Revenue (NBR) jointly organised by the FBCCI and NBR on Thursday at a city hotel.
Finance Minister Abul Maal A Muhith was present at the meeting as the chief guest, said a press statement.
FBCCI president Md Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin) moderated the discussion while NBR Chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan presided over the meeting.
FBCCI vice president Mr Md. Muntakim Ashraf, directors of FBCCI and the heads of member bodies of the organisations also attended. High officials from different Ministries and NBR also took part in the programme.
Former presidents of the FBCCI Akram Uddin Ahmed, Mir Nasir Hossain and A K Azad participated in the discussion.
At the meeting FBCCI formally submitted the budget proposals on import duty, income tax and VAT for FY19. Representatives from different trade sectors also presented their opinion and proposals.
