Trade through the Benapole land port with neighbouring India has been on pause since Thursday morning following a strike by C&F workers.
Thousands of C&F workers blocked the Jessore-Benapole road from the morning and staged demonstrations protesting the arrest of one of their colleagues, a member of Benapole Customs Clearing & Forwarding Agents Staff Association.
The loading and unloading of goods also remained suspended and vehicular movement including long route buses also is at halt, says a UNB report.
Hundreds of trucks loaded with imported goods got stranded on both sides of the border.
Earlier, on secret information, a joint team of customs, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and police raided an Indian truck, registration number N-23 P-0373, and seized a single shooter gun and two bullets.
Later, they arrested Mikail Hossain, the C&F worker, as the driver and his assistants fled the scene sensing the presence of law enforcers.
Protesting the arrest, Benapole Customs Clearing & Forwarding Agents Association enforced the strike.
