CPD, Swedish Embassy ink deal

The Swedish Embassy in Bangladesh and the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) have entered into a partnership to work on a project aiming at securing a green transition in the textile and RMG sector and contributing towards a ‘just transition’ of the sector.

Ms Christine Johansson, head of Development Cooperation, Swedish Embassy in Bangladesh, and Dr Fahmida Khatun, executive director of CPD, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations, according to a statement.

Ms Christine Johansson said that the key objective of the project is the enhancement of environmentally sustainable and climate neutral growth in Bangladesh with productive employment opportunities for women and youth. She also mentioned that Swedenis are committed to enhancing the competitiveness of the textile and RMG-sector through improved social and environmental compliance.

Highlighting the importance of the project, Dr Fahmida Khatun said employment for women and youth and green economic transition are crucial for sustainable economic growth. She mentioned that as Bangladesh is committed to an environmentally sustainable economic growth, ensuring environmental compliance in the industrial sector can help achieve its national climate and environment related goals.
