Country’s first solar IPP project in the offing

Country’s first solar IPP (Independent Power Producer) project at the most efficient tariff will be implemented soon.

It will be a private sector investment in power sector infrastructure project worth of USD 180 million.

Joules Power Limited (JPL) and Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently at BEZA head quarters to establish a 100MW Solar Farm at BEZA’s Chandpur Economic Zone.

Nuher Latif Khan, Managing Director of JPL and Paban Chowdhury, Executive Chairman of BEZA signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations.

 As per the agreement, JPL will construct a multipurpose jetty and a 37 kilometer long 132KV transmission line.

 Under the MoU, BEZA will provide JPL about 500 acres of land at their Chandpur Economic Zone to establish 100MW Solar Farm.

 During the MoU signing, Nuher Latif Khan, Managing Director of JPL and Director, DCCI said there are immense potentials in the renewable energy sector in Bangladesh.

He said that investment in power sector is very viable for double digit return because of strong Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) and Implementation Agreements (IA) offered by the Government, said a statement.
