A five-day fair began on the premises of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) headquarters at Motijheel in the city on Sunday.
Some 60 small and cottage entrepreneurs are participating in the 'Hemanto Fair 1427' to exhibit and sell a wide range of handicrafts, attire, leather goods, and food items.
BSCIC chairman Md Mostaque Hassan inaugurated the fair as the chief guest, with BSCIC director Md Alamgir Hossain in the chair, a statement said on Monday.
Mostaque Hassan said the country's micro, small and medium enterprises have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic.
"The corporation has organised the fair amid the pandemic following requests from the entrepreneurs who see their businesses declining due to the outbreak of the virus," he said.
He also urged the participants and visitors to maintain health guidelines to help prevent further spread of the deadly virus.
The fair will remain open for visitors from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm daily.
