A seven member committee was formed on Tuesday to address problems or disputes that occur among buyers, buying houses and exporters operating within the ready-made garments (RMG) sector.
The committee, headed by Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Vice President Shahidullah Azim, will mediate between the aggrieved parties to resolve trade disputes, according to a press release.
BGMEA and Bangladesh Garment Buying House Association (BGBA) formed the committee in a meeting held Tuesday at the BGMEA's Gulshan office in the capital.
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan and BGBA President K. I. Hossain were present at the meeting.
BGBA Secretary General Md. Aminul Islam, Vice President Md. Anwar Shahid and Acting Treasurer Abdullah Al Mahmood (Ferdows), BGMEA First Vice President Syed Nazrul Islam, Vice President Rakibul Alam Chowdhury, director Haroon Ar Rashid and former director Ashikur Rahman (Tuhin) were also present on the occasion.
In the meeting, BGMEA president said, “Bangladesh’s apparel industry has attained a glorious position over the last four decades as a preferred and trusted sourcing hub in the world.”
"Buying houses have significant contribution to the sector’s success," he added.
He stressed more collaborative and cooperative approach from buyers, buying houses and manufacturers to create a win-win situation for all parties and the industry as a whole.
All need to work together to realise the immense potential of the RMG sector and face different challenges in the coming days, he added.
