Commerce Minister urges NRBs to invest in Bangladesh

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi urged non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) to invest in Bangladesh, and thus contribute to the development process of the country.

The minister said Bangladeshis residing in the United States are already making a significant contribution to the welfare of the country (Bangladesh). They are playing a significant role in brightening the country's image.

Mr Munshi was speaking as the chief guest at a seminar titled "Bangladesh the Next Investment Frontier" organised by Startup Bangladesh Limited in collaboration with the commerce ministry and the Consulate General's Office in Los Angeles in Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, USA on Friday.

The development of Bangladesh is now visible. The world is now praising the development of Bangladesh. Many mega projects are being implemented successfully in Bangladesh, reads a press release issued by the commerce ministry.

Bangladesh is building the Padma Bridge at its own expense. In 2041, Bangladesh will become a developed country. The NRBs of the USA have a huge opportunity to contribute to the development of Bangladesh, adds the statement.

Commerce minister, who is visiting the USA, said Bangladesh is now an attractive place for investment. All kinds of investment environments now exist in Bangladesh. The eyes of the world's investors are now on Bangladesh.

100 special economic zones are being set up in different important places of Bangladesh on the initiative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Domestic and foreign investors have come forward to invest in several special economic zones. Non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) in the United States will benefit if they invest.

The government has announced a number of attractive packages to attract domestic and foreign investments. All the formalities in terms of investments are being done quickly and at low cost under one umbrella or one stop service.

Tina Jebin, managing director of Startup Bangladesh Limited, spoke at the seminar.

Additional Secretary of commerce ministry Md Hafizur Rahman, Joint-Secretary (Exports) of the same ministry Md Abdur Rahim Khan and President of e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh Shomi Kaiser, among others, were present at the event.
