City Bank launches instant account opening app

City Bank Limited has introduced a mobile app named ‘City Ekhoni App’ for customers to open accounts instantly.

The app will replace the traditional method of account opening which requires customers to visit a branch and fill-up required forms, says a media release.

Using the ‘City Ekhoni App’, interested customers who have NID card can open their own bank account, said the release.

The app is available for both iOS and Android users, it said.

City Bank has introduced E-KYC following the guidelines provided by the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU).

Account opening is very simple using the app.

At first, the customers have to install ‘City Ekhoni Account’ app from respective app stores. After opening the app, customers are asked to choose the type of account they want to open.

The next step is OTP verification by which the customer’s mobile number is verified. Then the customer has to upload images of the front and backside of NID, which are verified in real-time.

Once NID is verified, the customer will be asked to take his selfie. Upon selfie verification, customers will have to provide a few more information.

After submitting the information, the customer needs to select the desired product and branch. After that, the account is opened in real-time.

The customer receives his bank account number through SMS and can start transacting right away.

Commenting on the initiative, City Bank Managing Director Mashrur Arefin said that the cutting edge digital onboarding process will open up the platform of digital banking to millions of unbanked Bangladeshi people and will work towards bringing them under the umbrella of financial inclusion.

“Customers can open accounts from the comfort of their home and avoid coming into branches during the time of the current pandemic and safeguard themselves from the virus”, hoped the Chief Executive of the Bank.
