CHATTOGRAM: The month-long Chittagong International Trade Fair (CITF) 2022 kicked off in the port city's Railway Polo ground on Tuesday.
Commerce minister Tipu Munshi inaugurated the 29th edition of the exposition as the chief guest while Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) president Mahbubul Alam chaired the inaugural function.
A total of 310 companies, including foreign ones, are participating in the CITF 2022.
Addressing the function, Tipu Munshi said Chattogram is the international gateway of Bangladesh and Chittagong seaport is the lifeline of the country's economy.
He said the government will do everything for the development of Chattogram.
"Despite continuation of the development process, some obstacles still exist. We have to solve the crisis as the country is ours. We have to work together for the development of the country," he added.
M A Latif, MP, former CCCI president, and Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Saleh Mohammed Tanvir addressed the function as special guests. Chairman of the CITF 2022 organising committee AKM Akter Hossain also spoke.
Organisers said five countries, including India, Thailand, China and Iran, are directly participating in the fair. Leading companies and firms of different foreign countries are also taking part in the fair.
The CITF will remain open from 10:00am to 10:00pm every day and the ticket price has been fixed at Tk 15.
The trade fair, an annual event, however, could not be held in 2020 and 2021 due to coronavirus outbreak.
