CHATTOGRAM: If the Dangerous Goods (DG) and containers loaded with chemicals are not cleared within four days into unloading at the jetty, the importers concerned will have to pay four times more than what they are paying now as the store rent per day, from April 1 next, according to the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA).
Therefore, CPA has called upon the importers to release all DG and containers loaded with chemicals within the current month.
Enamul Karim, director (transport) of CPA, said the CPA would impose the additional charge as store rent under the section 160 of the Regulation for Working of Chittagong Port Cargo and Container 2001.
He said, "We are observing that the importers are making delay in releasing the DG and containers loaded with chemicals. On the other hand, CPA is trying to ensure the safety of the jetty and port area after Beirut port explosion in Lebanon last year."
"So, we are trying to release DG and containers loaded with chemicals as soon as possible," he added.
Around 200 people were killed and more than 6,000 injured in a massive explosion at the port in Beirut in August 2020.
