Chinese power company NEPC eyes BD market

NEPC, one of the giant power engineering companies in China, has set up its office in Dhaka with a long term plan to expand in Bangladesh market.

The company aims to grow in the by country by setting up power stations and importing power generation machineries and equipment.

NEPC (China Energy Engineering Group Northeast No 1 Electric Power Construction Co Ltd) is the first ever any Chinese power plant construction company that set up its own full-phased office in the capital, reports BSS.

"We are giving most priority to the Bangladesh projects as NEPC plants will be responsible for generating around one fourth of the total power generation of this country soon" The Executive Managing Director of Bangladesh Branch Company of NEPC Roy Luo Changqing said while inaugurating the new office at Glass House in Gulshan on Sunday.

Currently, NEPC is constructing the 1320 MW coal-fired thermal power plant with eco-friendly clean coal technology, first time in Bangladesh, near Payra port in Patuakhali, one of the landmark power generation projects of the present government.

Luo said NEPC took a plan to expand its operation in Bangladesh for mitigating huge demand of power here with the spirit of long lasted friendly ties between Dhaka and Beijing.

"We will continue our effort to bring Chinese top power generation technology and top equipment to benefit Bangladesh people and its economy," he said and adding that more Chinese companies are showing interest in operating here as a result of the Bangladesh government's positive policy on FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) here.

Besides the Payra mega project, NEPC is also constructing four more power plants - two in Sirajganj, Unit 2 (225 MW) and Unit 3 (225 MW) and two in Ghorasal Unit 7 (300/450 MW) and Unit 3 (416 MW). NEPC has already set up three power plants in Bibiyana II (345 MW), Meghnaghat (337 MW) and Sirajganj unit 1 (225 MW).
