Prices of broiler, layer, and Pakistani and Sonali chickens went up in Dhaka city’s kitchen markets on Saturday amid escalating prices of essential commodities.
Apart from this, prices of green chili and tomato also increased within a week.
However, prices of local onion, Indian and Burma varieties of onion saw a declining trend both at the retail and wholesale level.
The prices of almost all the daily essentials are still very high, according to traders and consumers.
All kinds of vegetables witnessed the same prices both in wholesale and retail levels maintaining the previous hike, said the vegetable trader, vendors and consumers.
Broiler chicken was selling at Tk 148-Tk 150 per kg at the wholesale level on Saturday while it was Tk 142 last week, Rasel (single name), a salesman at New Bismillah Broiler at Mohammadpur Krishi Market, told The Financial Express (FE).
Layer chicken was selling at Tk 230-Tk 235 a kg at the wholesale level today while it was Tk 228 per kg last week, he said, adding that the price of the red egg was Tk 105 a dozen at the wholesale level.
Price of Pakistani and Sonali chickens was Tk 285 a kg which was Tk 275 per kg last week, he added.
The retail price of broiler chicken was reported to be Tk 148-Tk 153 a kg on Saturday, according to the Department of Agriculture Marketing (DAM).
Price of the red egg was Tk 36-Tk 37 a dozen, it added.
Akash (single name), a vendor at Mohammadpur Krishi Market, said local onions were selling at Tk 42-Tk 45 per kg at the wholesale level today which was Tk 55 a kg a couple of days ago. Imported Indian onions were selling at Tk 40 at the wholesale level.
Imported Burmese varieties of onion were selling at Tk 42 a kg, which was Tk 60 a couple of days ago, he said.
Imported ginger was selling at Tk 108 a kg at the wholesale level, the vendor added.
This correspondent saw that prices of red tomato and green chili went up by Tk 100 per five kg and Tk 15-Tk 20 per kg.
The prices of pumpkins, bitter gourd, pointed gourd and newly harvested potatoes remained steady in the past few days.
A vegetable vendor, Faruk (single name), claimed that the prices of almost all vegetables remained unchanged on Saturday.
The wholesale prices of cauliflowers and beans of all varieties were Tk 35-Tk 40 and Tk 20-Tk 30 respectively, he said.
The newly-harvested diamond variety of potato was selling at Tk 14-Tk 15 a kg at the wholesale level, he added.
