Chattogram City Outer Ring Road to open by June next year, says CDA

The construction works of one of the biggest projects of Chattogram Development Authority – City Outer Ring Road (CORR) is nearing completion.

The 4 lane 17 km long CORR from Patenga to Fouzderhat involving Tk 25 billion is expected to open for traffic by June next year.

This project was undertaken aimed at saving the coastal areas from tidal surge, an alternative communications for transportations of cargos from Chattogram Port and to avoid gridlocks from Bandar to Sitakunda portions on Chattogram-Dhaka highway.

To save the coastal areas of Halishahar, Patenga to Fouzderhat from the tidal surge, the Ring road project is being constructed over 30 feet high embankment of 100 feet breadth, said Superintending Engineer of CDA, Kazi Hasan Bin Shams.

He said there are provisions of 11 sluice gates and strongest wave protection wall in this portion of ring road.

He added for unhindered communications from the city to Fouzderhat, provisions of feeder roads for linking RAB-7 road, Port toll road and Sagarika road are being constructed. Moreover the present traffic congestions in front of Chattogram Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) will be eased following the connections of ring road with CEPZ road.

Besides, heavy cargo laden transports from Chattogram Port towards other destinations can easily access the ring road through feeder road. As a result, the severe traffic congestions in the city will be resolved.

CDA Chairman Abdus Salam said that at least 75 per cent works of this project already completed and the remaining works is expected to be completed by June next year, BSS reported.

JAICA is funding Tk 6 billion and the GOB will assist the balance amount, he added. The main aim of constructing the this outer ring road is to save the people of coastal areas of Chattagram as well as resolving the alarming traffic congestions in the city, the CDA chairman added.

He also said that it will be used as approach road to the Karnaphluli tunnel which will help to facilitate the transports of south Chattogram, Teknaf, Bandarban to enter in Ctg-Dhaka highway through ring road without entering into the main city.
