The Bangladesh Bank (BB) asked some payment service providers on Wednesday to refund money to customers of the digital commerce companies, which have no cases pending.
The directive came following pursuance of the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) and demands raised by individual customers, whose billions of taka remained stuck with the payment gateways for a long time.
The Southeast Bank Ltd, Nagad, bKash, Software Shop Ltd, shurjoMukhi Ltd, and Foster Corporation Ltd are in the list, whose top bosses were asked to make payment after scrutinising the customers' information.
MoC Additional Secretary A H M Shafiquzzaman told the FE on Wednesday that the customers, whose money had been stuck with the payment gateways, were suffering for long.
"With the central bank's directive, the misery of some customers will end."
Mr Shafiquzzaman also said now they would deal with the refund of payments of individual e-commerce companies, which have cases pending at courts, on case to case basis.
According to the officials concerned, some Tk 2.14 billion of e-commerce customers remained stuck with the payment gateways, since the shop-less trading firms went bust.
