CHATTOGRAM: The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) accorded a reception to President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Md Jashim Uddin at Bangabandhu Hall of the World Trade Centre (WTC) on Monday.
CCCI President Mahbubul Alam presided over the reception ceremony.
Addressing the function, FBCCI President Jashim Uddin said the supply chain of essentials, already battered by the coronavirus pandemic, is again being hampered across the world as well as in the country due to the war between Russia and Ukraine. As a result, the prices of essentials continue to go up.
He urged the government to take a proper policy to ensure smooth supply of essentials so as to rein in the price hike.
He also called upon the National Board of Revenue (NBR) not to raise taxes on the businessmen who are paying taxes.
NBR can widen the tax net but should not raise the prevailing taxes, he added.
He assured the businessmen in Chattogram of resolving their crisis through discussion with the high-ups of the government.
CCCI President Mahabubul Alam requested the FBCCI chief to take steps to reduce the interest rate and remove the weighing scale from Dhaka-Chattogram highways.
