Leaders of the country’s apparel sector has urged the government for equal budgetary benefits, including identical corporate tax for the country’s all export-oriented sectors to help them flourish.
“There should be no source tax on export as the government gets only Tk 20 billion to Tk 25 billion as source tax from the country’s readymade garment export which is worth $28 billion,” said Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president Md Siddiqur Rahman.
He urged the government to withdraw source tax from all export oriented sectors and set corporate tax at 10 per cent for all.
He also requested for digitalising the bonded warehouse auditing system aiming to protect the misuse of the duty free import facility.
The BGMEA chief made the demand at a pre-budget discussion meeting with the National Board of Revenue in the city on Tuesday.
NBR chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan presided over the meeting.
Mansoor Ahmed, vice president of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufactures and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and Md Hatem, vice president of Exporters Association Bangladesh, among others, spoke at the programme.
