Call for skills development in food processing

Speakers at a workshop have recognised the need for ensuring skills development of the people involved in every stage of food process and supply.

They exhorted the government to take steps to this end.

The National Association of Small and Cottage Industries of Bangladesh (NASCIB) and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) co-hosted the event at a city hotel on Sunday.

All the allied organisations should play an important role in using developed technology in the preparation of nutritious and safe food, the speakers said.

At the workshop styled 'Skills Development of Small and Medium Enterprises in Producing Nutritious and Safe Food', they suggested overcoming challenges of investing in the production of safe and nutritious food for small and medium enterprise.

The workshop side, they also organised a short exhibition on 'Technology for SMEs in the Food Industry Showcase by Bangladesh Agricultural University'.

Dulal Krishna Saha, secretary and executive chairman of National Skills Development Authority (NSDA), was the chief guest at the workshop chaired by NASCIB president Mirza Nurul Ghani Shovon.

Prof Dr Lutful Hassan, vice-chancellor, Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAO), Md Nurul Amin, member (registration and certification), joint secretary of NSDA, Dr Rudaba Khondker, country director of GAIN, among others, were present.
