Mobile courts run by the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Monday fined some businesses Tk 0.278 million on various allegations, including preparing food in unhygienic conditions.
Of the total amount, some restaurants in the Mirpur area were fined Tk 0.26 million for preparing food in unhygienic conditions - seven cases were filed in this regard, said a DNCC statement.
Also, three traders were fined Tk 18,000 for keeping merchandise on streets illegally, said the statement, adding that the drives were conducted as part of DNCC's ongoing move to ensure proper implementation of government's directives including health guidelines.
The cases were filed and fines were realised under the Consumer Rights Protection Act and the Local Government Act.
One and a half kilometres of footpaths were also freed from illegal occupants during the raids.
Regional Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate of Zone-7 Motakabbir and that of Zone-4 Md Abed Ali conducted the drives in the area adjacent to Kawla Bazar and Ansar Camp Bus Terminal.
