BTCL launches 'Alaap' app

Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) launched an IP calling app named 'Alaap' on Sunday.

Anyone having internet connections with his/her mobile handsets can talk at 30 paisa per minute through Alaap app.

Post and telecommunication minister Mustafa Jabbar launched the app through a virtual programme.

Anyone who will register with the app will get a new number of Alaap.

BTCL managing director Dr Md. Rafiqul Matin revealed the information at the function.

Those who download and register with this app will get mobile numbers with 09698 series, he said.

The last 6 digits of the number will be the last 6 digits of the mobile user's number, he added.

He also said the app has various facilities including sending messages, video calling, and call forwarding.

One-second pulse will be calculated as well, the managing director said. Although the Alaap app cannot be used globally right now, he said, one can talk at an affordable call rate outside the country through the app.

"Every call in Alaap is encrypted. As a result, information remains secured."

The app having various facilities from videoconferencing to almost all benefits of the international standard app is going to match with this app of BTCL, the BTCL official said. The app is available on Google Play Store and App Store.
