BSTI destroys over 6,000 unsafe water jars in city

Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) in anti-adulteration drives destroyed a total of 6,600 unauthorised water jars in the city on Monday.

The drives were conducted at 22 hotels, restaurants and tea stalls in the city’s Mohammadpur, Gaushia Market, Nilkhet, New Market, Hazaribagh, Panthapath, Karwan Bazar and Tejgaon industrial areas.

Moreover, BSTI also seized four pickup vans with unsafe water jars and dismantled non-food grade jars, according to a press release.

 The regulatory body also lodged cases against 10 businesses in the city’s Cantonment and Gulshan areas on charge of measurement manipulation.

The business are M/S Lina Bostra Bitan, M/S Prime Matching, M/S Ohi Matching Corner, M/S Ango Shova Fabrics, M/S Rajdhani Matching Corner, and M/S Than Kutir, M/S Ajwa Limited Corner, M/S Bread and Beyond Bakery, M/S Mr Baker and M/S Gloria Jeans in Cantonment and Gulshan areas on ground of weight and measure manipulation.

The cases were filed under the Standards of Weights and Measures Act, 2018, added the release.

BSTI Director General Md. Muazzem Hossain said the BSTI is working relentlessly to ensure safe food or products for the customers and will continue its drive to this end.
