BSCIC moves to help entrepreneurs reach target audience

Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) is set to launch an online marketplace, aiming to help the micro-entrepreneurs sell their products to a wide range of consumers.

To this effect, the BSCIC on Friday inked a deal with Dream71 Bangladesh Ltd, a consultancy firm.

Md Mofidul Islam, secretary of the BSCIC, and Rashad Kabir, managing director of the consultancy firm, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides during a ceremony at the BSCIC Training Institute in the city's Uttara area.

BSCIC Chairman Md Mostaque Hassan attended the ceremony as the chief guest, according to a statement.

The BSCIC will also establish display and sales centres at 64 district offices and 76 other regions to support the small and cottage industry owners in promoting their products, the statement also said.

Speaking on the occasion, Mostaque Hassan said the BSCIC had the capacity to establish sales centres across the country in order to help in delivering products sold at online marketplace.

Underscoring the necessity of online marketplace, he said: "This is the crying need of the current digital era."

"Small, cottage and medium entrepreneurs, who faced a severe blow due to the pandemic, could benefit from the proposed online marketplace."

A day-long workshop was also held to identify the system requirement specification (SRS) following the signing ceremony.

BSCIC officials including its directors Swapan Kumar Ghosh, Md Alamgir Hossaen and Golam Md Faruk, and representatives of the consultancy firm joined the programmes, the statement added.
